The Evening Farmers Market was started by a group of local farmers who wanted an afternoon market to sell only their locally grown produce, baked goods, or crafts. There were originally four vendors at the first market. The fourth said he sold everything before he was able to unload it from his car and set up. So began the Evening Farmers Market in 1999.

Farmers markets were the first “grocery stores.” Some nationwide chains, like Whole Foods Market, still says “buy local first.”

The reasons:

  • Local food is higher in nutrients because they are freshly picked.
  • Fuel is saved by less transportation.
  • Reduced packaging saving trash from the landfill.
  • Locally grown means dollars go directly to the grower.

Statesville is a very unique community. We are fortunate to have many surrounding farmers and opportunities to purchase directly from them.

By getting to know the farmer, you may learn how the produce is grown and recipes for cooking them.

Buying locally benefits all and is truly a valuable shopping experience. Help Keep Food Dollars in Our Community by shopping Local Farmers Markets.

To make your shopping experience enjoyable, fun, and delicious, please park in the city lots. There are two: on Water Street and on Center Street.

Please do NOT park behind the buildings facing Broad and Center Streets. These spaces are marked, owned, and reserved. Unauthorized vehicles parked in those spaces will be towed away.
